The water situation in South Africa is rapidly changing.
So, what does this mean for the built environment? How does this change the way Architects need to design buildings?
This is the topic I addressed at the Pretoria Institute for Architecture Design Build Conference 2023.
The presentation set out changes including the rapidly escalating water and sanitation tariffs, and an increasingly unreliable mains water supply.
These changes mean a different approach is required and high-performance resilient buildings are now required.
A structured approach can be to address this and includes: Setting, targets, Developing strategies, Modelling, Lifecycle costing, Submetering, Efficient fittings, Grey water systems and Rainwater harvesting
