Reducing Costs and Improving Performance: Integrating Windows and Door Designs in Buildings

In tiny houses, windows and doors are often some of the most expensive components.

One solution is to make them and integrate them into the designs. Using standard materials improves affordability. Careful jamb, reveal and casing design, and seals can be used to make them airtight. Integration with the fabric, cills and thresholds can be used to ensure that openings are water-tight and there are no leaks.

A recent visit to Raw Modular’s tiny house revealed some elegant solutions made from plywood, clear corrugated sheeting, and car windows. Many thanks, Peet van Straaten, for the tour.
