I enjoyed speaking at Agrement South Africa’s ‘Advancing Certification of Non-Standardised Products: Driving Innovation for a Sustainable Built Environment Industry and Stakeholder Technical Forum’ in Cape Town.
My presentation was on ‘Circular Built Environment in South Africa: Strategies for Technology Innovation for Resource Efficiency’ and I included key circular built environment concepts, projects and ideas on how circularity in the built environment could be promoted through greater awareness, guides and standards, including the following:
- Circular economy building materials and construction processes guide and standards
- Biobased products guide and standards
- Waste-based building product guide and standards
- Indigenous and hybrid construction and materials development and compliance
- Circular built environment materials and product manufacturing opportunities workshops for entrepreneurs
- Circular economy building services guide and standards
- Off-grid sanitation systems guide and standards
- Greywater and rainwater harvesting systems guide and standards
- Product-as-a-service (PAAS) guide and standards
- Equipment library guide and standards
- Localising the supply chain (construction, maintenance, repairs) procurement guide and standards
- Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) guide and industry engagement
Thank you, Agrement, for the invitation and the audience for the excellent questions and discussion, and I look forward to seeing how initiatives in this area develop in future. If you would like a copy of the presentation, please feel free to contact me.
